Here at MSU, there are several initiatives focused on increasing access and promoting inclusion. As the HIVES Research Workshop and Speaker Series has grown, we have been lucky to hear about two initiatives in particular: The class AL 111: Introduction to Accessibility in the Humanities and the “You Belong Here” initiative coming out of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and inclusion, and PALs.
The “You Belong Here” initiative will focus on creating an environment of inclusion at MSU. While the project began with a single door, it has since expanded to become a motto for the school to foster belonging among all communities in East Lansing.
AL 111: Introduction to Accessibility in the Humanities will hopefully be one of many classes offered here at MSU that focuses on disability studies and/or accessibility. This undergraduate course will be offered for 1-credit on Thursdays from 3-3:50pm during fall 2020.
